Australian Open
AustralianOpen
I watched most number of matches in a grand slam in the recently concluded Australian Open. I will remember few matches for long time. Andre Agassi gave up after putting all his efforts to stop Roger Federer in their Quarter Final match. The semi final match between Federer and Marat Saffin was best of the lot in my opinion. I missed the match between Andy Roddick and Hewitt. Road to finals wasn't an easy one for both the finalists. They played extraordinary tennis to be there. Hard hitting Safin played against determined Hewitt in the final. It was just awesome tennis. Saffin got frustrated with few calls by the line judges and broke his racket after the first set. What a way come back after loosing the first set so badly? He came back with his best serve in the second set in more than one occasion. Hewitt started to recover and return everything that Saffin hits. But, a champion knows what is needed for pulling it off. Saffin worked hard in the second, third sets and regained his confidence to go on to win the fourth.
Saffin
When it comes to Women's tennis, what can I say about Serena Williams. I was impressed with Sania, Hyderabadi girl, who played in the third round against Serena. There was a smile on Sania’s face when she won one game in the first set. No player wants to go out of the match with no game against on the scoreboard. She played well in the second set but serve from Serena was too much to handle for the youngster. If Sania has to make a mark at the top level, her serve has to be much stronger than what it is.
I was impressed with Davenport when she could pull it off from Alicia. Alicia is physically so strong a lady that Devenport had to use all her mental strength to come through. Oh GOD. I have not mentioned the match between Serena and the bomb of modern tennis, Sharapova. I wonder if Sharapova looses lot of energy screaming than hitting the ball. Serena took away from Devenport at the end.
