Holy Ramzaan and Haleem...
Holy Ramzaan month started which means Haleem is selling everywhere. I am sure I will not miss Haleem this year too. It is almost an year back that I had Haleem and just thought about it only now. I have not missed Haleem after coming here; Haleem was not known to me before coming to Hyderabad. I get to tell my Muslim friends from other parts of India about this Hyderabadi Ramzaan recipe. Not everyone appreciates the way it is prepared but I enjoy eating this special once in a while. I am told by many that Haleem is rich in calories. The mutton is cooked with wheat, ghee and spices added under a small fire from early in the morning till late in the night. Most of the outlets charge over Rs.40/-. People line up at Biryani centers, Irani chai cafes and Cafes that serve Biryani during the full length of the holy Ramzaan month. Add to all this, cafes offer more than just biryani, Haleem and Chai. One such offer that caught my attention is Bahar Cafe's offer; family Biryani, family Haleem, 500ml Cool drink and a Vanilla Ice Cream just for Rs. 200/-. Roads get blocked near the mosques but Muslim girls come to the rescue and turn the supposedly bad time into a good time. I can add lot many other things but time is precious.
